5 Ways To Get Cheap Video Games

Video games can be expensive but they don’t necessarily have to be. Here are 5 ways you can save money when buying video games.

1 – Wait For Sales
It sounds obvious but there are so many incredible deals on video games throughout the year that there is always money to be saved.

Sony and Microsoft have their respective deals, while PC gamers make the best savings of all if they wait for the infamous Steam sales, which happen several times a year. It isn’t uncommon to see titles that cost in excess of £50 at the start of the year retailing for less than £10 in the Autumn/Winter sale.

2 – Bundle Up
Buying games in bundles is another great way to save money. Humble Bundle has a Humble Monthly set of games for the price of just $12. The bundle usually includes one AAA video game, bundled with several other great (but usually cheaper) games. It’s a great way to build up a collection.

3 – Buy From 3rd Party Websites
Buying your games straight from the developers or through the store pages of Microsoft, Sony, EA Origin, etc. can be very expensive, so much so that it’s a wonder how they make any sales at all.

There are alternatives, though some are less genuine than others. I personally purchase my PC games from CDKeys, then my Switch games from Amazon. CDKeys especially provide huge savings – it isn’t uncommon to save £10-15 on a brand new game, and they usually deliver their pre-orders in advance of the shipping date advertised on other websites. Boom!

4 – Look For Vouchers Online
If you’re the kind of person who refuses to buy from 3rd party websites such as CDKeys then that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on discounts. There are so many great websites that offer discount codes for video games and video game accessories.

My process when buying a game is always the same: find the 3 cheapest sites, then find a coupon or voucher for those websites. VoucherBin tends to come out on top most of the time, as they usually have an awesome Game code sitting there waiting for me.

5 – Buy Pre-Owned
Console gamers can make HUGE savings by buying their games pre-owned. eBay, Amazon, Gumtree…they all have gamers like you and me selling the games they’re done with.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games are especially cheap – they can be found for £5-10 in a lot of cases, and some games released in the last 3 months are available for less than £20.

PC gamers need not apply, unfortunately (still, we get the Steam sales mentioned before, so it evens out).
