Is EA’s Origin Access Worth It? Heck Yes – It’s A Great Deal!

I initially dismissed EA’s Origin Access as being a waste of money.  I was wrong.  It offers a strong collection of great video games for an affordable price.

Origin Access members get access to a seriously impressive collection of free games.  Additionally, members often have access to games ahead of launch, normally with a five-day headstart.  A 10% discount off of purchases through Origin sweetens the deal further.

Origin Access costs $5 a month or $30 a year in America, or £3.99 a month or £19.99 a year in the UK.  Members can cancel their membership at any time.

Let’s be honest though, $30/£20 a year is only a good deal if there are decent games to play.  The good news is, EA has you covered with a roster of awesome games.

You can read the complete list of video game titles included in EA’s Origin Access here.

Highlights include:

  • Battlefield 1
  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlefield Hardline
  • The Crysis Trilogy
  • The Dead Space Trilogy
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • FIFA 17
  • The Mass Effect Trilogy
  • Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
  • Star Wars Battlefront: Ultimate Edition
  • The Sims 4 Digital Deluxe
  • Titanfall 2
  • And so many more.

Sure, there are a handful of “never heard of it” titles included, but by and large, they’re incredible titles.  Battlefield fans will be spoiled for choice with the arsenal of games available, as will Fifa fans (though there is no confirmation that Fifa 18 will be added to the service).  Gems like Mirrors Edge Catalyst, The Sims 4 and the Mass Effect Trilogy offer hours of fun, and that’s before we mention stellar offerings like This War of Mine and Ravel.

As an extra bonus, EA has vowed never to remove any games from the “Vault” of freebies. “I think one of the key things is that once a game goes into the Vault it stays there, it’s not going to be taken out, that’s a commitment we’ve made,” Peter Moore said.

One of the things that convinced me to purchase a year’s subscription with EA’s Origin Access is the type of games.  I’m unlikely to play an iteration of Battlefield or Fifa beyond a year, so having access to them both for just £20 is too good a deal to turn down.  To have access to a dozen or more other titles that I’d love to play just sealed the deal.

What do you think, is EA’s offering strong enough to justify the price tag?  What games would you need to see included to convince you to make the purchase?
