Showing Off My Geek Pride: An Adult Gamer’s Collection

An incredible hoard of geek and gaming culture. You NEED to see this! Have a hoard of your own? Send it in!

Fans of the CBS-TV show, “The Big Bang Theory,”are familiar with the geek decor of the apartment of super nerds Sheldon Cooper and Leonard

Fans of the CBS-TV show, “The Big Bang Theory,” are familiar with the geek decor of the apartment of super nerds Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter (played by Jim Parson and Johnny Galecki, respectively), or the bedroom of the bachelor version of Howard Wolowitz (played by Simon Helberg).

Amateurs.

Rookies.

Posers.

The interior of my house looks as if a 15-year-old was given a credit card and allowed to decorate it as he or she saw fit. There isn’t a room in my house, a shelf or counter space or closet or cabinet or wall that isn’t adorned or filled with my love for all things geek/nerd.

I’m not really sure if I should be proud or embarrassed to make that claim.

Playmobil® Me will act as your tour guide and scale model through my home. He stands about three-inches tall for reference. So, just a little shorter than real-life me. He appears in all but one of the following images. See if you can find him. Fun for the whole family! Or just downright humiliating….

Shaggy hair, cargo pants, boots, longbow; yup, that’s me….
Kitchen cubbyhole

The bottom shelf of this kitchen cubbyhole holds some of my anime collection as well.

My grandmother’s 60+-year-old china cabinet. Hope she doesn’t mind….
Gift from my brother

Every Christmas, my brother tries do out-do last year’s gifts. His efforts cover my floors and walls and fills my shelves.

Sometimes it’s hard to focus on the TV….

The lined-up figures are for the Disney Interactive Infinity 2.0 and 3.0 video games. Among them are Tron, Marvel, and Star Wars figures. I couldn’t resist.

Yeoman Janice Rand’s uniform; another gift from my brother.
Bonus nerd points for anyone who knows who “Janice Rand” is. Or be grateful that such geek knowledge isn’t in your wheelhouse.
Lynda Carter Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot will be a great Wonder Woman. But Lynda Carter is my favorite.

Adam West as Batman

This painting of Adam West was done by Kevin Stark, a friend of my brother and sister-in-law. Stark owns and runs The Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

Bath mat and shower curtains; Ka-Chow!

I also have a “Cars” toothbrush holder, wall clock, and tissue dispenser! And a “Street Fighter” Chun-Li wall scroll watches over me as I pee. She’s cured me of any urination anxiety. TMI…?

Long-haired Superman, circa 1992

Despite what the other images may reveal, Superman is my favorite superhero.

Lego AND Superman?! What could be better?!

Though Superman is my favorite superhero, I’ve never found an action figure nor statue of him that I liked. This is my only Superman figure. It was a gift from a very dear friend. When she showed me that it doubles as a flashlight…? Major nerdgasm!

Armed for the zombie apocalypse
Harley plus Ivy equals trouble
Playmobil® Me smiling for some reason….

Note the acrylic base upon which rests Slave Leia, the previous Lynda Carter Wonder Woman, and the following two Wonder Woman statues. Acrylic display cases are insanely expensive. But, after a trip to Home Depot®, purchases of a large sheet of Plexi-Glas®, an acrylic-cutting knife, and some hot glue, making my own cases proved simple and satisfying.

Wonder Woman maquette

A “maquette” is what animators use when drawing animation cells for cartoons or animated films. It helps the artists with head and body proportions, colors, etc. This is a replica of a maquette used when producing the Warner Bros.’ animated series “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited.”

Obviously, I hate Wonder Woman….

The action figure in the lower right wearing a Superman costume is female, so I stand by my previous statement that I have only one Superman figure.

In front of the fireplace

When I started to run out of shelf space, I began the practice of leaving new items in their boxes. It made it easier to move them around and rearrange them if I decided to store others or acquired something new.

Above my desk
Lest there be any doubt….
Superman watch collection

Ironically, I stopped wearing watches….

Showing some Marvel® love

Spider-Man is my second favorite superhero. Yes, that’s a Spider-Man bedspread…. And no, it’s not a racing-car or pirate-ship bed. Though I did see an awesome, limited-edition Millennium Falcon bed!

This small sampling doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of my collection. There are closets and cupboards, and even a cellar packed full of loot.

My collecting days have slowed down drastically; honestly, I don’t have room for it all. What’s shown here is just some of what is on display. Again, pride or shame?

I once suggested at a gathering of friends that my geeky hobbies and “taste” in home decor are the reasons why I’m still single. Someone in the group said, “No, that’s not why.”

I’m still not sure how to take her comment.
