99.9% of video game websites will ask you to write for them for free, in exchange for experience. Some might vaguely hint at free review copies of games at some unspecified time in the distant future, or press passes to unnamed events.  Sometimes they exist, sometimes they don’t.

If you write for GrownGaming, we try to do something a little bit different.

GrownGaming is still a passion project of mine – I pay out of my own pocket for the hosting and maintenance of the site but I do it because I love it.  This isn’t about making bags of money, it’s about creating something awesome.

But I understand that some people just want to make a little bit of money on the side from their passion of writing – and that’s cool, too.  That’s why I’ve tried to implement a form of profit-share with our writers.

We have coded 2 ads into the website design – one at the top and one in the sidebar.  What we can offer you is the opportunity to sign up with an affiliate scheme of your choice (Amazon, Green Man Gaming, CD Keys, Etsy, etc.) and to insert your banner under your opening paragraph.  That is the prime position on the website which generates more clicks than the other ads on the site.  And your ad will remain there for the life of the site.

That ad is yours.  The money generated is yours.  If someone clicks on your ad in a year or two, you still get the benefit.

I’ve made this decision for four reasons;

  1. I want you to get paid for your work.  Really, I do.
  2. I want a process that didn’t require you to rely on my honesty; with this system, you have your own affiliate account and you earn every penny you are entitled to, without it coming through me.
  3. I want you to earn money for your writing forever; if someone clicks on the ad in your article in 5 years time, you will still be paid.
  4. I want you to be a part of GrownGaming. I want you to feel like this is a website that wants you to achieve with it, but also one that makes you feel like you want to promote it – not just because it increases your chances of revenue, but because you know we’re trying to do the right thing.

So, that’s it. Register as an affiliate on your chosen site and post the code into your article.  Done.

If you run into any problems at all, email [email protected] – we’ll do whatever we can to help you.
